What is a Pearl Compass?

During the second world war, British soldiers relied heavily on their compasses to guide them safely through the battlefields.
Before the advent of "glow-in-the-dark" materials, their compasses needed to be reliable even in the darkest of situations.
To meet these needs, the face of their compasses were made of Mother of Pearl and it's brightness made the compass easy
to read, day or night. These unique instruments proved to be a valuable asset during a critical time.
